How a guide is built

Each guide follows the same structure: a quick answer up top, a safety check before any hands-on step, diagnosis ordered from the most common and simplest cause to the least common, and a clear, honest section on when the problem is beyond a DIY fix. Manufacturer documentation and official safety sources (such as fire-safety agencies for dryer vent guidance) are cited by name and linked where a specific claim relies on them.

Fact-checking

Error code meanings and causes are checked against the appliance manufacturer's own published support documentation. Safety claims — like fire-risk statistics for restricted dryer vents — are checked against the original source (for example, a fire-safety agency's published report) rather than repeated secondhand.

What we don't do

We don't publish pricing estimates without a reliable source, we don't recommend a specific paid contractor or brand, and we don't dress up a dangerous repair as a DIY project for the sake of a longer guide. If a task genuinely requires a licensed technician, the guide says so.

Corrections and updates

Guides are revisited when manufacturer documentation changes or when a reader flags an error. Contact us to report a correction.
